What we cannot carry, and why

The prohibited list is not small print, it is physics and law: things that leak, burn, rot or cannot be replaced do not belong in a shared van. Here is the list with the reasons, so the edge cases answer themselves.

Leaks and hazards

Liquids, oils, paints and aerosols: one burst bottle ruins a vanload of other people’s boxes. Gas canisters and fuels are a legal no. Drain bikes’ and mowers’ fuel before travel.

Batteries

Large lithium batteries travel fitted to their device (an e-bike battery on the e-bike is fine) but never loose in a box, where a crushed cell can start a fire.

Perishables and living things

Food that can rot, and plants, do not survive a hub-and-spoke week well, and what they do to the boxes around them is worse.

Valuables and documents

Cash, jewellery, passports and irreplaceable documents travel with you, not us: £199 shipping and £50-per-piece cover is the wrong tool for an engagement ring.
